How to Get White Teeth for Your Wedding

What bride doesn't want to look amazing on their wedding day? I certainly do! I have planned everything; my skincare regime, I have booked in some facials, booked in my nails, sorted my hair and makeup. However, the last thing I thought about was trying to get my teeth whiter. After seeing a not-so-nice full smile photo of myself, I was conscious that all my years of tea and red wine drinking hadn't left my teeth with the nicest colour.

I looked into the chemical teeth whitening process but it costs a small fortune and so many people said they had issues with sensitivity after the treatment, plus it doesn't last forever so I personally didn't think it would be worth the money. I know some people buy the whitening strips from America but this just scared me a little bit.

Don't get me wrong I wasn't looking for my teeth to be Ross from friends white "You've got a blacklight, it's 1999!?" I just want them to look a more uniformed colour.

I thought I would look at using a teeth whitening toothpaste to see if this would help. They always have great claims about how white they can get your teeth. I had been thinking about this just before bed so I went to brush my teeth and realised I have always been using teeth whitening toothpaste. OH, so Huh?! My teeth aren't a nice uniformed brighter colour and I have been using a whitening toothpaste. I had resigned myself to the fact I might have to go down the chemical whitening route when the lovely people at Whitewash Laboratories sent me some of their Remineralising Whitening Toothpaste, and as I really want to try and whiten my teeth as "naturally" as I could I was keen to give it a go.

The first thing I noticed was that they have charity editions of their manual toothbrushes, which is fantastic. Every toothbrush sold they donate 25p to The Pink Ribbon Foundation
I wasn't planning on using the toothbrush as I have an electric one but I have started going to the gym first thing in the morning so it is actually a lot easier to just take a manual one and do it at the gym. I was really surprised by this toothbrush as it is really soft but cleans my teeth just as well as my electric toothbrush.

The toothpaste itself is in a very strange but brilliant tube, you push it up from the bottom, so no tube squeezing to get the final bit and it always stands up straight on your bathroom cabinet. I suppose that is a good thing, right?.

I like that it is developed by actual dentists and not just some big company that then recruits a "dentist" *cough* ACTOR? *cough* to tell you why it's so amazing to use.

Let's chat about the results-

I started brushing my teeth 3 times a day as I wanted to get the most out of it, plus I snack a lot during the day on fruit. You only need a tiny amount as it foams up a lot, which I like. It advises on the box to just spit don't rinse which I thought was weird but wasn't horrible to do.

I took some before and after shots but as you can see they are terrible, I think I need to go to close up teeth photo school. I did take the pictures in different lights as well.

I'm not being a big help with the photos but you can take my word for it though as in real life this toothpaste has dramatically whitened my teeth. Like I said earlier, not to a celebrity Veneers white but they look clean and all one colour and I am so happy with the result, I am going to keep using this brand until my wedding day and I will be more than happy with any up-close laughing shots.

Whitewash laboratories actually put together a Top 10 Teeth Tips, this is what they think are the key points to getting pearly, healthy whites.

TOP 10 TEETH TIPS:

Brush before breakfast - This is the ideal time as tooth decay is caused by the bacteria in our mouths using the food we eat to produce acid causing our teeth to decay.

Go alcohol-free - Alcohol is the main ingredient in a lot of products on the market because of its high ability to kill bad bacteria but it also kills good bacteria in the mouth.

Manual brush method - Angle the brush at 45 degrees to the gum line. The average brush head will cover two teeth, clean around in a circular motion for around 5 seconds and then move forward one tooth at a time repeating the same circular cleaning action for five seconds. (Don’t forget to brush your tongue!)

Two minutes, twice a day- Use the timer on your phone to ensure you are spending at least 2 minutes brushing your teeth (twice a day)

Sensitive gums? If you have sensitive gums I recommend using a rotating toothbrush.

Avoid eating for an hour before bed – This is so the saliva in your mouth has a chance to clear away food debris and neutralise acid.

A pea sized amount - I often get asked how much toothpaste you should use when brushing your teeth. The answer? A pea sized amount.

Don’t wet tooth bristles straight away- Avoid wetting the bristles on your brush straight away to improve plaque removal.

Bleeding gums - If you have just started flossing your gums may be sore and might bleed but if you get into the routine of flossing then after a week or so the bleeding should stop. If you find your gums still bleed, see a dentist.

Remember the 4:2 rule - If you brush twice a day for 2 minutes each time, then your teeth are protected so you can eat four times throughout the day, so breakfast, lunch, tea and one snack. If you eat or drink more than 4 times in a day, then it is important that you brush your three times a day.
